Be Careful What You Say While Campaigning…. God May Be Watching.

If you’re a politician running for office it could be advisable to consult God for approval on what you say before debating or making political speeches. Don’t depend on Carl Rove, James Carville, Mark Penn, David Axelrod, Dick Morris and others to provide divine guidance and motivation.
Those who are God-fearing, deeply religious and devout toward their faith and those who do not believe are continuously at odds interpreting 1st amendment rights and the constitutionality of separation of church and state. Then there are the liberal political pundants, commentators and columnists who believe or disbelieve only when it suits their political agendas. They interpret the use of God in political presentations to sway voters towards their objectives without care of insulting others. Mentioning God in any political forum these days will definitely lead to heated debates and controversy instigated by the liberal media.
Why do politicians use the reference of God in many of their speeches? Obviously they wouldn't want to offend potential supporters who might not authorize their expression of faith. The answer lies within the candidate’s own morality and support of faith and not to appease voters as left wing commentators will lead you to believe. Most of us concur that liberal media displays no morality when expressing their views and will distort just about anything to sway opinion. Fortunately we are much smarter then what they make us out to be.
On September 11th 2008, ABC news was able to boost their dismal ratings by landing the first interview with Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Charlie Gibson, the talking head and all around “nice guy” of ABC World News was the interrogator who displayed his lack of knowledge on NATO treaties along with pressing Governor Palin on a so called “Bush Doctrine” a made up list of four different policies created, pieced together and named by the media and which have never been statements of official government policy. Of course Palin was confused as to which set of policies Gibson was asking about. The old “gotcha” technique clearly failed so Gibson then started his ludicrous questioning about Palin’s support of what he characterized a U.S. holy war in Iraq. His misinterpretation of a speech given at her church started a liberal media smear-fest. The actual words spoken by Governor Palin are as follows:
"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."
Palin is clearly praying that we're doing the right thing in Iraq but Palin’s response was not good enough for Gibson and continued pressing her reference to God seemingly emulating Detective Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) of Law and Order Criminal Intent with side winding head movements and convulsive body movements.
Charlie Gibson is no expert on God nor did he study theology but does hold a graduate degree from Princeton University. At one time Princeton had close ties to the Presbyterian Church but that was way before his attendance. So what gives him the authority to question Sarah Palin’s belief that God controls not only her actions but our countries actions? I surely can't find any credentials.
Mr. Gibson should review the following political excerpts from the Presidential inaugural addresses below and tell us all why having faith in God overseeing and supporting our personal and nation's actions disturbs him so much.
“The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God”.
Franklin D. Roosevelt, Inaugural address, Jan 20, 1945
“The American people stand firm in the faith which has inspired this Nation from the beginning. We believe that all men have a right to equal justice under law and equal opportunity to share in the common good. We believe that all men have a right to freedom of thought and expression. We believe that all men are created equal because they are created in the image of God”.
Harry S. Truman inaugural address, January 20, 1949
“The American belief under this covenant of justice, liberty, and union we have become a nation, prosperous, great, and mighty. And we have kept our freedom. But we have no promise from God that our greatness will endure. We have been allowed by him to seek greatness with the sweat of our hands and the strength of our spirit”.
Lyndon B. Johnson inaugural address, January 20, 1965
“We have the chance today to do more than ever before in our history to make life better in America--to ensure better education, better health, better housing, better transportation, a cleaner environment-to restore respect for law, to make our communities more livable--and to ensure the God-given right of every American to full and equal opportunity”.
Richard Nixon inaugural address January 20, 1973
“I'm told that tens of thousands of prayer meetings are being held on this day, and for that I'm deeply grateful. We are a nation under God, and I believe God intended for us to be free. It would be fitting and good, I think, if on each Inaugural Day in future years it should be declared a day of prayer”.
Ronald Reagan inaugural address January 20, 1981
“There's no story more heartening in our history than the progress that we've made toward the brotherhood of man that God intended for us”.
Ronald Reagan inaugural address January 21, 1985
“We have heard the trumpets. We have changed the guard. And now, each in our own way and with God's help, we must answer the call”.
William J. Clinton inaugural address January 20, 1993
“We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom, not because history runs on the wheels of inevitability - it is human choices that move events; not because we consider ourselves a chosen nation - God moves and chooses as He wills”. George W. Bush January 20, 2005

It wasn't until recently that the Limbaughs & O-Riellys had any sort of counterpoint, and most definitely since the Iraq war began, the media has NOT shown the harsher side of that reality. For the most part, they pan their cameras the way the current regime asks them to.
Debating God for presidential candidates is a nice game of distraction: the issues to me are not what or who they pray to, but rather what they can do for the well-being of the people they lead. The republicans have not done well in that regard during their time in office over the last 2 1/2 decades. gay marriage is a distraction; stem cell research is a distraction.
Jobs, economy, inflation, WAR, these are the real issues. And the US has largely failed on these fronts when the 'pubs have had their way.
(1) Whatever the exact definition of "The Bush Doctrine", Palin's answer "his world view?" was nowhere near. It missed the whole point of the dialogue our country needs to be having: what is the justification for pre-emptive, elective war? And how does that square with the Christian doctrine of just war?
(2) Palin spoke of "a task" singular, not "tasks" in general, and as you say the context is about "doing the right thing in Iraq." She needs to separate the tasks we confront now from the assertion that the entire Iraq War was a task from God, and she did not do that.
Citing presidents who have affirmed God is a non-sequitur. As for my feelings about Palin's speeches in general, they're well summed in a letter reprinted here: http://redemptionjunkie.blogspot.com/2008/09/governor-palin-put-away-falsehood.html
The letter's authors are liberal Christians who openly support Obama, but the ad-hominem is not the point, it's the example and the Gospel.
Those before speak of God's protection, and support of Human Rights that Governments may not infringe, while those after speak only of Tasks and American exceptionalism and the opposite of respect for human rights.
All forms of belief save one deserve the utmost respect. That one is the one that would eliminate by force or murder all others.
Osama and the Taliban certainly represent the Muslim flavor of that exception, but there are Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and even Buddhist flavors as well. Each most threatening where most folk are of the respectable version, as that is their camouflage.
Thus in the U.S. it is the Christian version (usually referred to as Dominionists) that is most threatening. They are far along in subverting many conservative institutions, and have expressed plans more Pol Pot than Taliban even (most now scrubbed).
There is plenty of reason to consider that Gov. Palin is a part of that movement, and thus plenty of reason to explore her thoughts in that area.
If she juggled rattlesnakes it would be of little concern, but if her intention was to cause the deaths of billions to fulfill her agenda, then that just might be relevant.
Or is that line a pathetically veiled threat that God's gonna smite all those who are not conservative christians?
haha. That's classic. Thanks for the giggle.

"Citing presidents who have affirmed God is a non-sequitur." +1
This is exactly what our country DOESN'T need. Um, last I checked, your God doesn't do private consultations. (Maybe in YOUR head he does, but that's a whole different issue...) If this war is "God's plan", doesn't that confirm that he needs better project management skills? Oh, or maybe those prayers just aren't working to help those poor boys over there?
If Joe invests 10K a month of his net of 17K, he can retire at age 45 with 2 million in the bank -- or wait until he is 65 with 12 million in the bank.
I would say, with or without the $800/year in increased taxes, Joe is the American Dream.
What I have heard is that Joe's potential business is making more like 130K a year in revenue--not net profit and I assume he has expenses. In any event--Joe the Plumber will get to keep more with senator Obama's tax cuts than he would under McCain.
Even if his revenue was 278K, this would be true, because of other tax cuts and the deductions he can make.
Joe is misinformed and we are being mislead, and the lack of critical journalism is sad.
What is with this nations paranoid fear of socialism? Soccermom doesn't want Joe to buy you a latte, and if the government makes him that's socialism and is totally un-american and we should get the hell out of the country if we agree with that. But do you realise that Joe is made (by the government) to pay for your children's education, for your streets to be patroled by police and for firemen to come to your house in case of a fire. That's right, the public education system and a ton of other public services are funded by tax payers so everyone can get the same level of care(in other words they are SOCIALIST SYSTEMS), this means that hard working types likes Joe are FORCED BY THE GOVERNMENT to pay more to make sure the kids of lazy parents can have a sound education.
But this is totally unamerican right? and McCain should abolish these horrible communist systems. Instead we should have a fully capitalist system, where if you can't afford to pay for fireman then your house should just burn down, and your kids should go without education and the ambulance should prioritise who they take to the hospital first based on how much you can pay... because that's what America is all about right? BTW soccermom do your kids attend a public school? Cause maybe you should buy Joe a latte to thank him for that.

I have wondered numerous times what kind of ignorance it would take to vote for Obama. The posts on your website confirm some of my worst fears. Why don't all the socialists move to a socialist nation? This is the United States of America. We are a democratic republic.
I was born into a socialized nation, just about the center of it. The top tax rate was 95%, and the Socialized Republican President was out to create a socialized highway system.
The antisocial extremists (who were mostly Southern Democrats then) fought it tooth and nail, refused to build it in their states, and set their states back years.
Over the years the country has become increasingly unsocialized till we are all The South now. Perhaps we can eventually socialize the country back to where it was when I was born, but it will take just about as long.
