Absolutely!! Did you notice that once the liberal media got Joe on the phone and he was talking favorably about McCain, they suddenly "ran out of time".

I have wondered numerous times what kind of ignorance it would take to vote for Obama. The posts on your website confirm some of my worst fears. Why don't all the socialists move to a socialist nation? This is the United States of America. We are a democratic republic. Why would Joe bust his hump expanding his business, giving up time with his family, his blood sweat and tears, so that he has to buy you a latte? If he wants to buy you one out of the goodness of his heart, that's great, but for the government to hold a gun to his head and force him to is pure socialism. What all you liberals forget is that the government's function is to protect our rights...not to play Robin Hood, not to take on your personal responsibility of providing you with a job, health care, and whatever else you whine about. If you think Obama can spend your money better than you can, give it all to him...you'll probably end up down the same road as some of his biggest contributors, Fannie and Freddie.

If Joe's profit is 278K a year, his monthly net income is almost 17K and the tax he would have to pay more a year with Obama's plan is short of $800 -- or $2.30/day which is about the cost of a latte. I think Joe can afford sharing a latte with a friend or customer if he is making this kind of money!

If Joe invests 10K a month of his net of 17K, he can retire at age 45 with 2 million in the bank -- or wait until he is 65 with 12 million in the bank.

I would say, with or without the $800/year in increased taxes, Joe is the American Dream.

What I have heard is that Joe's potential business is making more like 130K a year in revenue--not net profit and I assume he has expenses. In any event--Joe the Plumber will get to keep more with senator Obama's tax cuts than he would under McCain.

Even if his revenue was 278K, this would be true, because of other tax cuts and the deductions he can make.

Joe is misinformed and we are being mislead, and the lack of critical journalism is sad.

A business is taxed on it's taxable income not on it's gross turnover. Even though the gross turnover for his business is $250,000 a year you have to subtract his business expenses, which are things like employee wages and benefits, equipment/vehicle costs etc. etc. (I provided a link below that details the full list of deductibles). Using your example "Joe the Plumber" only has $25,000 + $29,401 of taxable income (his salary plus the profit of the business) and is there WELL below the $250,000 cut off point.

Is this the level of business understanding that most anti-Obama bloggers have? You think business taxes are based on revenue and not net income? Maybe you should seriously educate yourself before entering the voting booth on November 4th. I don't care who you vote for but at least don't make your decision based on bad information and lack of information.

you should be good and "flushed" right about now, after finding out the real deal on "Joe the plumber". Once again Mr. McCain has not done his homework, and has made a complete idiot of himself and his party. That lead me to realize, it would take sheer ignorance to vote for John McCain!

Your numbers don't match Obama's plan.

Obama will increase the tax on NET revenues over $250,000 (taxes are never charged on expenses, only profits). The first $250,000 are taxed at the LOWER rate. And the $10,000 (above the 250k) is taxed at 3% more which is about $300/year. If the company is paying staff health insurance, they will have a 50% tax credit which will save them thousands! and there is NO (again NO) capital gains tax for small firms.

So even though one part of the tax is slightly higher, other parts are smaller, so ultimately the result is lower taxes.

You can read these very clearly stated plans on the Obama site.

McCain believes as the republican party does that helping companies helps the individuals. I don't believe that is the case. When people have more money to spend, they help the companies. Trickle down doesn't work.

Vote OBAMA

I don't understand why McCain supporters are always calling Obama a socialist. I just don't get it.

I was undecided until the last debate when it seems all McCain did was throw mud. Now I see it's the general approach of many McCain supporters.

McCain's plans for Health insurance are just like what happened to pensions. They're GONE leaving american's to save for their own retirement, which is NOT happening. So McCain wants everyone to pay their own Health Insurance out of pocket... and TAX health benefits... now THAT's RAISING TAXES !!! .. anything for the company... nothing for the people..

... oh, do we now call McCain a socialist?

Have you been as amused with the MSM in the last few days as i have?

In Wednesdays debate McCain mentioned the now famous "Joe" the Plumber

See Barack Obama walked down this guys street last week going door to door with his media pals in tow, and Joe Whats-his-face dared to question the Barack of Obama about his tax policy.

In this conversation the Barack of Obama spilled the beans that his policy if elected will be one of income redistribution. (spread the wealth around)

John McCain being the candidate daring to run against the Barack of Obama, jumped on the maya-culpa and used Joe the Plumber as his standard citizen in the debate

So now the MSM (Barrack's lap/attack dogs) have decided to vet Joe the Plumber, it turns out he owes taxes, he is a Republican, and he doesn't have licence to practice plumbetry (doesn't need one, but who care , lets destroy him anyway)

how dare Joe Whats-his-face dare to support McCain when according to Baracks tax plan, he wont be taxed ( if you believe that narrative, your in Obama's tank just like the media)

see what the Joe the Plumber episode has showed us all, again, for like the 10th time in this campaign, is that the media is so far up Obama's butt they can kiss his prostate

while Joe the Plumber's house is as under siege as Casey Anthony's is ( mom who's 2 yrs daughter is missing)

the likes of Ayers home or past for the most part goes ignored: unless the media is complaining how negative the meanie McCain is being.

to put the frosting on this cake, the echo-chamber that is the MSM is congratulatingly slapping themselves on the back for killing Joe the Plumber (they think) and vetting him when McCain was to unprofessional too ??

The Obama Biden campaign has also piled on with questions of Joe's credibility, a sure fire way to win votes in OH and PA if i ever heard one ??

are these guys really that stupid ,....................again, yes they are !!

while Joe the Plumber and Bristol Palin get rectal exams by the MSM , the Barack of Obama for the most part gets a pass !!

on that note: do you guys remember the hand ringing 3 months ago by the NY Times and the MSM in regards to the unfair out of bounds upcoming attacks sure to come against Michelle Obama ???

as of today, we have seen zero from the RNC or McCain, and hardly any right wing media scrutiny of Michelle (cuz who wants to be a called racist anyway)

in their hypocrisy, the NY Times has decided to sucker-punch Cindy McCain with an attack piece in today's paper that the National Enquire would be proud of !!..............how ironic.

........................sssshhhhh !!! dont tell the party planners (MSM), but the polls are closing daily !!!

Excellent analysis. However Obama hits home with a lot of people about his point about passive income taxed less then earned income. It is not fair that someone who inheirited their wealth gets taxed less then someone working thir butt off. Obama presents a solution to make it fair and raise passive income to the earned income levels. McCain should propose to make things fairer and propose to reduce income tax to a maximum of 15% of your salary. He could win the election right there and turn the economy around. Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were what the country needed, they could have pulled us through this financial mess. They understood we need to change our tax system and our monatary system. The fair tax is the flat tax. Income taxes and property taxes are killing us. Now that credit is drying up the American people will not be able to make it. Its simply unsustainable. The government is like a giant blood sucking leach devouring us alive.

This article assumes things that are not true--first that people will be taxed on gross with no regard for expenditures. Based on this scenario--Joe would still pay nothing in taxes as his outlay and expenses would exceed his gross. In other words, after Joe paid 5 plumbers 40K each (that's 200K) then himself 25K and a secretary and receptionist, and paid all the rest of his overhead, Joe would be due for a tax credit. He'd be in the hole. Even if he made 300K.

But here's the real sticky point. Normally, when one is taxed at a higher bracket, the additional is taxed higher but the exemption is still applied for the first 250K. This should be explained by Obama. Say for instance someone makes 350K. Is the first 250K taxed at the lower rate with the additional 100K factored in at the higher rate? Another thing to remember is that taxes are paid on gross less expenses and deductions. From this hypothetical, if Joe deducts his employee's wages, and insurance, etc--he would be in the hole. Something tells me that Joe would not be hiring 5 new plumbers--it would have to stay a 2 man operation--and if Joe does not bother getting an apprenticeship or plumbing license--neither of those 2 men would be him

All this crap started with Reagan. Did anyone forget that president in office who had Alzheimers??
And who can forget the "trickle down" effect of VOODOO Economics. Get real people, the republicans have ruined this country starting with Reagan.
Did anyone forget all the lieing that the Bush administration did concerning the war, Haliburton, 911???
What we need is a socialised health care system and a nationalisation of the banks.
BEFORE YOU START PICKING ON THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION, LOOK AT WHAT YOUR PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS DID!!!!!
